An Afrijet aircraft landing
The Gabonese air transport company Afrijet has just added a new destination to its range of destinations served. This is Port Harcourt in Nigeria, capital of Rivers State in southern Nigeria, a locality located on the Niger Delta. The actual translation translates into two weekly flights: two flights departing from Libreville-Port Harcourt on Tuesdays and Fridays and two return flights from Port Harcourt to Libreville on Wednesdays and Fridays. This for a journey time of 1 hour 15 minutes.

The creation of this new air route is not trivial because it has been announced since 2023. We remember that on February 28, 2023, the company headed by Marc Gaffajoli signed a loan agreement for 8 billion FCFA ($13 million ) with the Development Bank of Central African States (Bdeac) and BGFIBank – respectively 5.3 billion and 2.6 billion CFA francs – to finance the first phase of its 2022-2026 development plan. The said plan aims on the one hand for its expansion on the continent with 5 first destinations in the viewfinder: Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lagos and Port Harcourt in Nigeria, Dakar in Senegal and Johannesburg in South Africa.
With its appearance in the Nigerian sky, the Gabonese company aims to β€œboost economic and cultural exchanges between Gabon and Nigeria, while simplifying travel for regular travelers,” informs our colleagues at Gabon MΓ©dia Time.

Afrijet continues to spread its wings

By now connecting Port Harcourt, Afrijet remains faithful to its development plan which aims, between 2024 and 2026, to improve the internal and external connections of the Gabonese Republic from the capital Libreville. To do this, the company plans, on the one hand, to strengthen its operational capacity by increasing the existing aircraft fleet with the acquisition of new aircraft, and on the other hand, to acquire a stock of spare parts and tools for maintenance, as well as a set of other equipment necessary for the operation of aircraft.

Note also that the implementation of the said plan is already starting to bear fruit. According to our Gabonese colleagues, for the current year Afrijet transported nearly 300,000 passengers. This was made possible thanks to nearly 200 weekly flights carried out by the company with its fleet made up of 6 ATR 72-600s and one Airbus 320.

Remember that Afrijet is already present in Libreville, Franceville and Port-Gentil in Gabon, Douala and YaoundΓ© in Cameroon, Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville in Congo, Cotonou in Benin, as well as Malabo and Bata in Equatorial Guinea and Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo .
