Cameroon: With more than FCFA 53 billion in 2024, the United States is the largest contributor to humanitarian aid

In a recent report, the UN Humanitarian Actions Coordination Office (OCHA) said that on September 30, 2024, the United States contributed 53 billion FCFA to humanitarian aid in Cameroon. This is four times more than the second contributor, the European Union, which comes with 14.5 billion FCFA.

The top 10 contributors also aligns Sweden (plus 3 billion FCFA), Germany (more than 2 billion FCFA), France (plus 2 billion FCFA), Japan (2 billion FCFA), Canada (more than a billion), Italy and Norway, plus 630 million FCFA; And the NGO Education Cannot Wait with more than a billion FCFA.

OCHA notes that these contributions, and many others, represent 90 billion FCFA, or 38% of the entire amount required. The humanitarian response plan adopted last year by the partners and the government had toured a necessity of 217 billion FCFA to help 2.3 million people, out of the 3.4 million people in need.

Last September, the United States Embassy in Cameroon had already said that in 2024 Washington had contributed 12 billion FCFA to humanitarian aid, “only for food and nutritional assistance”.
