Newly appointed Southwest Regional Delegate of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), Abdoullahi Boboe, has officially assumed office with a strong mandate to improve voter registration and strengthen election management ahead of the 2027 polls.
During the official handover ceremony in Buea, The Director of ELECAM, General Erik Essousse challenged the new regional official to improve coordination within branch offices and increase citizen participation in the electoral process.
Boboe replaces Zofoa Njoya Sake, who has been transferred to the West Region after serving in the Southwest for more than two years.
ELECAM’s leadership says preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle have already begun, making voter mobilisation and administrative efficiency immediate priorities for the new regional team.
Essousse stressed that continuous voter registration and the distribution of voter cards remain essential to ensuring wider participation in future elections. He also called for stronger supervision of staff and better implementation of electoral activities across the region.
The Director General described the transfer of officials as part of a broader administrative reshuffle designed to improve institutional performance nationwide.
Responding to the challenge, Boboe promised to uphold neutrality, transparency and professionalism in managing electoral operations within the Southwest Region.
He stated that cooperation with political parties, civil society and other stakeholders would be necessary to guarantee peaceful and credible elections.
According to the new delegate, accepted electoral outcomes are key to maintaining peace and encouraging development in the region.
The ceremony ended with the official signing and handing-over process, presentation of gifts and a reception attended by ELECAM officials and guests.
As Cameroon gradually moves toward the 2027 elections, attention is now turning to how effectively ELECAM’s new regional leadership can expand voter participation and reinforce public confidence in the electoral process.
