The Gambia has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding economic and diplomatic cooperation with South Korea during the 2026 Korea–Africa Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Seoul.
The Foreign Affairs Minister, Sering Modou Njie led the Gambian delegation to the high-level gathering, which brought together African ministers, African Union representatives and South Korean officials to review progress made since the 2024 Korea–Africa Summit.
Discussions at the meeting focused on trade, investment, infrastructure, technology, agriculture, energy and digital transformation as African countries seek stronger international partnerships to support development and economic growth.
Speaking during the ministerial session, Minister Njie stressed the importance of deeper Korea–Africa collaboration in creating jobs for young people, strengthening economic resilience and accelerating sustainable development across the continent.
He also reaffirmed The Gambia’s support for the 2026 Korea–Africa Joint Statement aimed at promoting practical cooperation between African nations and the Republic of Korea.
The Gambian delegation further welcomed ongoing Korean support in areas such as food security, technical education, governance reforms and peacebuilding initiatives.
Officials also highlighted the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between The Gambia and the Korea-Africa Foundation, describing it as a major step toward expanding people-to-people exchanges and strengthening bilateral relations.
Prior to the ministerial meeting, Permanent Secretary II at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fatou Kinneh Jobe, represented The Gambia at the Senior Officials’ Meeting where she called for stronger monitoring mechanisms to ensure that agreements reached under the Korea–Africa partnership produce measurable results.
The summit concluded with the adoption of the 2026 Korea–Africa Foreign Ministers’ Joint Statement, reaffirming commitments to cooperation in trade, infrastructure, education, climate action, health, peace and security.
The Gambia says its participation in the Seoul meeting reflects the government’s broader strategy to deepen strategic partnerships capable of driving national development and economic transformation.
