Limbe is not only friendly to its citizens and visitors, it is officially christened “The City of Friendship”.The city, from time immemorial, has been historic and remains a tourist attraction.

Located in Fako Division, South West Region, the city, in most occasions, is described as a jewel in between Mount Cameroon and the sea. Limbe is host to the famous slave trade village, which is under consideration to be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

For a city which is bounded to the South by the Atlantic Ocean it is a clean get away location for those wishing to watch the sun sets every evening as sea waves surrender their last strength over the black sandy beach front. In Limbe, known as “City of Friendship’, the residents are welcoming and ready to share their resources and precious time with visitors all times. This translates the fact that they are willing to engage in a polite conversation with anyone who happens to bump into them seeking for information. Thus, in the “City of Friendship” it is rare for someone to get missing.

This year, the sea side city will play host to the 2021 edition of World Habitat Day pursuant to the fact that in 2020, the Limbe I municipality won the cleanest city competition beating big cities such as Yaoundé, Cameroon’s political capital and Douala, its economic capital. The contest was organized by the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.

Sanitation

Every tourist loves to visit a location noted for cleanliness. Limbe is conspicuously neat and for years has continued to prioritize hygiene and sanitation. Though there is a company in charge of collection of household waste, the people are conscious of their role in keeping their environments clean. No doubt, Limbe streets are always neat. At a time when the City Council has revamped the parking lot fee, it is hoped that Limbe will become one of the most orderly cities in terms of parking of vehicles and the use of urban space.

The Limbe Botanic and Zoological Garden is another attraction for both foreign tourists and Cameroonians. The garden has flora that has existed for hundreds of years while others are a resource for researchers due to their highly medicinal value. A walk in the Limbe Botanical Garden is refreshing, mind-blowing and relaxing. It even gets better in the company of family members or f riends.

On the other hand, the Limbe Wildlife and Zoological Centre LWC, provides a safe haven for fauna and serves as a rehabilitation site hosting over 400 animals. Limbe is highly accessible from all ends, thus very easy to drive around or trek to enjoy the local setting and friendly nature of the people. For the sea shore access is f ree but for a more reserved stay most of the hotels along the coastline are ideal places to visit for a weekend or long stay vacation.

Night Life

In recent times much investment has been directed towards boosting nightlife activities in the city. More snack bars and lounges have been established to ensure that after a busy day the denizens can get a rewarding hang out with loved ones. Most of these joints even start their services by mid-week but weekends are very special.

Though the health situation occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic has put a lot of outdoor activities on hold, hopes are that the Limbe Festival of Arts and Culture (Limbe FESTAC) -a crowd puller for those who love culture and the display of Cameroon’s cultural diversity will be back when things are stable. It’s usually a cultural festival which runs for eight days including activities such a boat cruise and visits to tourist sites. The high point is a grand canoe race for both men and women.

Security Guaranteed

At a time when most people are worried about insecurity, Limbe is safe and has always been. The city is host to a logistic base of Cameroon’s elite force, the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR).

This has made visitors more comfortable each time they are in Limbe. Security patrol and surveillance are daily. As the city prepares to host the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2022, the efforts of Limbe City Mayor, Motanga Andrew Monjimba to enhance the city’s attractiveness are not only visible but intensifying. The city mayor wants that Limbe should remain at the peak not only as the cleanest cityin Cameroon but also as the safest..
