The 33rd edition of the TOTAL ENERGIES AFCON will take place in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6 2022. The spectacular, splendid and culturally-rich Draw Ceremony to kick-start the AFCON 2021 was meticulously packaged and offered to the world on Tuesday, August 17 2021 at the 1,500-seater Conference Centre in Yaounde – the political capital of Cameroon.
Before now, doomsayers had cursed, here and there on Cameroonβs inability to stand up to the challenge. But since the night of Tuesday, August 17 2021, the naysayers have gone mute. Many now say this is the moment to join forces and give ourselves a good African football party. This is the moment for Cameroon to make Af rica proud. This is the opportunity for Cameroon to give the world another touch of its beauty and splendour.
The Chieftain of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, Dr Patrice Motsepe reinforces the discourse. I quote him; βWeβve never doubted the capacity of Cameroon to host this AFCON. I kept telling media men and women across the Af rican continent that Cameroon is the Plan A, the Plan B and the Plan C of the TOTAL ENERGIES AFCON 2021. Here we are in Cameroon. A country that has a proud history of Af rican football.β
With 24 teams now aware of who is who in their 6 pools across Yaounde, Douala, Bafoussam, Buea-Limbe and Garoua, the adrenaline has begun rising. The AFCON 2021 is already here in Cameroon. Remember, the TOTAL ENERGIES AFCON 2021 is not only about the baloon on the greenturf. It is also about our socio-economic, infrastructural and financial development. Rather than accuse, blame and complain, let us get together as one people, one nation and think beyond our nostrils. The AFCON does not come everyday, countries do everything humanly possible to get it. Therefore, now that it is here, letβs make the best out of it.
