Hon Muyali Meboka Elected Deputy Speaker
Hon Muyali Mary Boya epse Meboka is new Deputy Speaker of Cameroon‘s 180-member National Assembly, elected during its March 2022 session. She is the third English-speaking(Anglophone) female Cameroonian to occupy this coveted position in recent memory,after Hon. Rose Abunaw and Hon.Emilia Lifaka (of blessed memory).
Election of members of the Executive Bureau of the National Assembly is done yearly in the March session,which is the first of three ordinary sessions.The two other sessions hold in Jnue and November.
This woman of substance ,who has been Member of Parliament (CPDM) for Ndian Divison since 2007, holds, among other academic qualifications, a Master of Scinece(MSc) degree in Development Training and Education – University of Wolverhampton, England.
She has been serving as MP now for fifteen years. In an exclusive interview with The RECORDER Newspaper,in June 20210, Hon Muyali said, “I want in my constituency achievements that I can be proud of „ -and since then she has been fighting very hard to bring enhance development in Ndian Division.
Hon. Muyali was born on October 3, 1961 in Tombel, Cameroon. But she is a native of Ndiba-Mundemba in Ndian Divsion.
After her primary education in Government Secondary School Ekona in 1974, she attended Government Secondary School Mbengwi and Government High School Mamfe where she obtained her GCE Ordinary and Advanced Levels respectively.
She then proceeded to the University of Yaounde where she studied in the Natural Science Faculty. She later obtained Diplome D‘Igenieur Des Travaux Agricoles from the University of Dschang in 1987.
Hon Muyali also took some courses such as Cell and Tissue Culture and Biotechnology from Ibadan –Nigeria, Tropical Root and Tuber Research Project Ekona, under USAID.
In a bid to acquire more knowledge, she did several Post Graduate Certification Programmes in Tanzania, South Africa, Kenya,Mozambique and Burkina Faso.
Hon Muyali has a rich professional portfolio. She has been an Agricultural Extension Officer at the Delegataion of Agriculture in Buea and Kumba(1987-1989),Acting Conservation Development Cordinator for the Korupt Project in Mundemba(1998-2004) .
She is presently Head of Cameroon Delegation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association , Vice President CPDM Parliamentary Group at the National Assembly and holds several other positions.
Hon Muyali ,who is very bilingual(speaks and writes English and French), is a member of the CPDM Central Committee .
Even before becoming an MP in 2007,she had served as 1st Deputy Mayor of Mundemba form 2002 -2007.
. She is also a member of the International Root Crop Society.
Hon Muyali is skilled in the management of developmnet projects, conflict management, participatory and impact monitoring, communication and several otthers.
She has earned recognition from local leaders who have honoured her with titles. She is referred to as Nyangeromo which means highest woman of the land of the Oroko people. She is also referred to as Bua Fa Ekombo which means mother of the people and Maffo which is the highest female title confered by the people of the North West Region.
She is married and is a christian of the Roman Catholic Church.
