Filth in Buea: Cause for concern

Buea, the Capital of the Southwest Region of Cameroon šŸ‡ØšŸ‡², is a tourist destination. It hosts the highest peak in West and Central Africa (Mt Cameroon) with thousands of visitors and tourists coming to Buea yearly to witness the Mt Cameroon Race of Hope.

In the days of the West Cameroon State , Buea was known for its cleanliness. But today, Buea which is one of the fastest-growing towns in terms of population and infrastructure, is said to be one of the dirtiest towns in the country.

Walking or driving along the streets of Buea, one is greeted by garbage dumps – -some almost occupying whole sections of main roads. These stinking garbage dumps along the streets are a threat to human health.

One is at a loss to understand the role of the Buea Council and other institutions charged with keeping the town clean.
