The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to a jailed Iranian activist, Narges Mohammadi. She is honoured for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.
*Her brave struggle has come with tremendous personal cost. Altogether, the regime has arrested her 13 times, convicted her 5 times and sentenced her to a total of 31 years in prison and 154 lasheslashes. Berit Reiss Andersen, head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee affirmed during the announcement.
Fighting for change has cost Narges Mohammadi her career and liberty. She has also been separated from her family.
The 51 year old activist is the second Nobel laureate from Iran after Shirin Ebadi won in 2003.
