Ousman Sonko, jailed Senegalese opposition leader announced that he was resuming his hunger strike in solidarity with other activists who had been unjustly arrested for expressing their political opinions.
Sonko also denounced his own arbitrary and electoral detention and demanded the release of hundreds of his party members.
The opposition leader was jailed several months ago on various charges including criminal association with a terrorist enterprise as well as undermining state security.
According to the detained 49 -year old, the charges were instigated by President Macky Sall with the aim of preventing him from running next year’s presidential elections.
Last week, a judge ordered that he be reinstated on electoral lists for the February polls after authorities had removed him.
