In the court case pitting her against the state of Cameroon, Barrister Alice Nkom writes: “Planned audience: April 7, 2025, 07:30 am-Douala-Bonanjo court
To those who refuse the shadow
The wind of injustice blows, brutal and cold, seeking to bend souls, to turn off the voices, to disperse the dreams. But here is that at the heart of the turmoil, silhouettes remain standing, rebellious, anchored in this land where freedom does not be begged, where dignity is not offered in sacrifice.

On April 7, 2025, at the first light of day, before the Douala-Bonanjo court of first instance, we will have to answer, Ngo Mbe Maximilienne Chantal and I, of a crime that we did not commit: to have broken the seals of injustice, to have refused submission, to have persisted in saying no.
What is a law, if it is gag? What is order, if it is only the facade of oppression? They would like to silence the Redhac, the last bastion of those who still dare to claim justice. They would like us to fold under the threat, that we are erased under the weight of their prohibitions.
But they know it! Nothing stops the march of those who carry the truth. You can close a door, but the idea passes through the walls. The beak can be nailed to a generation, but the next will wear the torch even higher. We will not be silent. We will not go.
May those who know what a just fight is worth getting up! Let us know, beyond the borders and the oceans, that the free souls of Cameroon do not kneel before the arbitrariness. To each chain they forge, we will oppose our resolution. Each stone they throw on our way, we will build steps to the future.
We are one of those who say no to darkness.
So whatever happens, know it: fear will not win. You who accompany me, who wear this torch, do not doubt. History is never written on the side of those who enclose and gag. It belongs to those who, bare hands, tear the dawn glow at night.
With courage, strength and loyalty,
Alice Nkom
