Opposition Leader Issa Tchiroma Bakary has denied that his party, the Cameroon National Salvation Front (CNSF), will participate in the upcoming regional elections. The denial, issued on Thursday, November 27th, 2025, refutes a report from the publication L’Œil du Sahel and frames the decision as a matter of principle amidst what the party calls a “national mourning” period.
The self proclaimed winner of the October 12 presidential election, who is currently in The Gambia, declared that CNSF cannot normalize political activities while the country is in a state of” Profound moral turmoil and major post- election crisis” following the recent presidential election.
The party’s stance is rooted in its outright rejection of the official presidential election results that extended the decades -long rule of President Paul Biya. The party asserts that the October 12 poll was “marked by massive fraud, the confiscation of the popular verdict, and bloody repression.
Tchiroma has repeatedly claimed victory for himself, stating he is the legitimate president-elect and vowing to fight to reclaim his “stolen” victory. Given these circumstances, the party argues that taking part in elections organized by what it labels”contested institutions” would be tantamount to “legitimizing disorder and turning our backs on the sacrifice of those who fell for democracy “.
Reaffirming the party’s focus, Tchiroma stated, ” I solemnly reiterate that the focus of our struggle remains popular legitimate, historical justice, and the moral reconstruction of our country” . He urged his supporters to remain disciplined and loyal, warning that” no distraction, no local manoeuvring, or individual statement” would divert them from their course.
