The resignation of the Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football Véron Mosengo-Omba has raised leadership concerns as tensions linger over a series of controversial decisions.

Mosengo-Omba announced his retirement, insisting he leaves with a clear conscience despite the storm surrounding CAF. His exit comes against the backdrop of uproar linked to Senegal’s stripped 2025 AFCON title and the abrupt postponement of the women’s tournament, developments that have shaken trust in the institution.

In a parting statement, the veteran administrator hinted at battles fought behind the scenes, stressing he had cleared doubts cast on his integrity and was departing with pride, claiming CAF is now in a stronger position.
However, critics have not held back. The 66-year-old faced backlash for remaining in office beyond the stipulated retirement age and was accused of fostering an unhealthy work environment—claims later dismissed after an internal probe.

Appointed in 2021, the Congolese-Swiss official served as a close ally to CAF President Patrice Motsepe. In the interim, Competitions Director Samson Adamu is expected to steady the ship as acting Secretary General.

Meanwhile, the governing body finds itself in legal limbo, awaiting a verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport over Senegal’s appeal. The West African nation is contesting the CAF’s controversial decision to overturn their AFCON final victory against Morocco.

The final itself was marred by chaos, as Senegal players briefly walked off the pitch in protest over a late penalty awarded to the hosts. Despite Morocco missing the spot-kick, Senegal went on to clinch victory in extra time—only for CAF to later reverse the result, handing Morocco a 3-0 win after an appeal.
With the dust yet to settle, CAF faces a defining moment as questions over governance and credibility continue to dominate the headlines.
