Buea is steadily reinforcing its status as a centre for culture and intellectual exchange following the inauguration of the Mahatma Gandhi Library and Art Gallery at the Cameroon Wall of Fame.
The newly-opened facility at Tuborg Junction was unveiled on June 3 by entertainment promoter Prince Agbor Gilbert Ebot in the presence of senior government officials, diplomats, and traditional authorities.
Among dignitaries at the ceremony were South West Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai, Indian High Commissioner Vijay Khanduja, Swiss Ambassador Nathalie Kohli, and the Paramount Chief of Buea, HRM Chief Dr. Robert Esuka Mbella Endeley.
Far from being just another reading space, the centre combines literature, history, art, and tourism under one roof. The structure hosts historical archives, portraits, and works highlighting key political figures who shaped Cameroon’s history, including Dr. E.M.L. Endeley, J.N. Foncha, and S.T. Muna.
Speaking during the launch, the Paramount Chief underscored the importance of vision, sacrifice, and commitment to national development.
Drawing comparisons with Asian societies known for discipline and hard work, he praised the determination behind the project and encouraged youths to embrace innovation and purposeful service.
The addition of a coffee shop and gallery space is also expected to attract tourists and visitors who frequent the iconic Dr. Endeley statue area.
