The government of Togo has introduced visa-free entry for citizens of all African countries holding valid national passports, this is aimed at improving regional integration and easing movement across the continent.
The announcement was made on Monday by Calixte Batossie Madjoulba, who confirmed that the new policy took immediate effect on May 18, 2026.
Under the new measure, African travellers can enter Togo and stay for up to 30 days without obtaining a visa. Authorities say the decision is part of efforts by the Togolese government to strengthen cooperation between African nations, promote trade, and support the free movement of people across the continent.
Despite the visa waiver, travellers must still respect immigration, security, and public health regulations upon arrival. Visitors are also required to complete an online travel declaration at least 24 hours before entering the country. The document issued after registration will serve as a mandatory administrative and security clearance at border points.
The Minister of security stressed that the policy does not excuse illegal entry, unauthorized stay, or violations of national laws. He added that border officials and relevant services have been instructed to fully enforce the new directive at land, air, and sea entry points.
With the latest decision, Togo joins other African countries such as Benin, Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Kenya that have relaxed travel restrictions to encourage greater mobility within Africa.
