Cameroonians have been called upon to uphold unity, embrace dialogue, and work toward lasting peace_ this was the Pope’s message throughout his stay in Yaounde.
In his address, the Holy Father urged state authorities and societal leaders to examine their roles in a country . He emphasized that leadership should unite rather than divide, calling for sincere dialogue as the path toward lasting peace. His remarks placed particular focus on young people, stressing that limited opportunities and economic hardship often push them toward instability. He encouraged the government to implement practical solutions that promote employment, inclusion, and international cooperation, noting that sustainable peace depends on improving living conditions.
The Popeโs willingness to support mediation efforts in the Anglophone crisis has further reinforced the Churchโs moral position. His assurance of continued collaboration shows readiness by the Vatican to contribute to dialogue between separatist groups and the state.
At the same time, human rights concerns have resurfaced, with renewed calls for the release of detained journalists, as global attention turns toward Cameroon during the papal visit.
As the visit progresses to Bamenda this April 16, anticipation is high among residents eager to witness the moment. However, logistical challenges have emerged, particularly in transporting thousands of faithful to the airport located between Bafut and Mankon. With restrictions on taxis and motorbikes beyond certain points, and limited buses available, many attendees face long journeys on foot.
Despite these hurdles, the Popeโs presence continues to inspire hope, unity, and renewed reflection in a region long affected by conflict.
